Abstract

The development of cities and the process of urbanisation have caused urban development boundaries to be exceeded. The trend of development shifting away from cities has put pressure on peri-urban and rural areas. This study aims to examine the phenomenon of RURBAN afftecting villages in Mukim Telok Panglima Garang, Kuala Langat. Secondary and primary data were analysed to assess the extent of the impact of the RURBAN phenomenon on these villages. RURBAN is the phenomenon where rural areas undergo gradual urbanisation. Urban-like amenities equip villages to meet the needs of their residen. Due to urbanisation, distance is no longer a barrier, and transportation systems have facilitated daily activities. Observations and field studies indicate a current trend of converting agricultural land into residential areas to meet housing demands in the market. Factors such as industrial area development, high property prices in cities, and comprehensive road networks have further accelerated the construction of residential estates developed through pocket developments. Consequently, the growing population has led to shortage of basic amenities. To balance urbanisation and rural development, a renewal plan and guidelines are necessary to ensure the preservation of  the village’s identity and prevent its disappearance.
