Abstract

The main purpose of this paper is to demonstrate illustration methods of measurement parameters used in the Axwoman software for Space Syntax analysis. Calculations are shown step by step using real urban space in Putrajaya. The Axwoman software is the connection to ArcMap in ArcGIS version 10 has been used for this Space Syntax application. The ability to analyze space makes Space Syntax as a unique tool for modelling urban environment or geographical area. The measurements done in Putrajaya show that the highest global integration was at Jalan Lebuh Sentosa (FID 15) and the highest local integration was at FID 631 representing streets of Jalan Permodenan, Jalan P4 X and Jalan Tun Hussein. The results of this study have demonstrated the parameters of Space Syntax and its measurement methods in understanding the layout of the road space. In fact, the outcome of this study has also helped to identify roadways that have the highest integration space for global and local levels in Putrajaya.
