Demographic Influences and 21st Century Skills by Trainee Teachers for Mathematics subject during COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract

The aims of this study are to measure the level of 21st Century Skills practiced by trainee teachers for Mathematics subject during COVID-19 pandemic and to measure the differences of 21st Century Skills practiced by trainee teachers for Mathematics subject during COVID-19 pandemic based on the demographic factors such as gender, age and the area of practicum for trainee teachers. A quantitative approach by survey method were used in this study. The sample consisted of 92 trainee teachers from two different programme which are from Bachelor of Education (Mathematics) and Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) with Education. The sample was selected by simple random sampling method. Overall, all the objectives of the study have been achieved, where trainee teachers who practiced 4C skills in PdPR sessions during the COVID-19 pandemic were at a high level, 4C skills practices in PdPR sessions practiced by trainee teachers also differed by gender, while there was no difference for 4C skills practices by trainee teachers based on age and area of ​​practicum. Implications of this study showed that this study can act as reference in practicing the 21st Century Skills in lessons to the teachers, trainee teachers, schools and institute of education.
