Abstract

This study aims to examine the factors of aggression that influence the involvement of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) handball team in the UPSI Open 2019. The study sample consisted of 30 handball players (n = 30; male = 15, female = 15) who participated in the UPSI Open. The instrument used to measure the athlete's aggression factor is through the questionnaire 'The Judgments about Moral Behavior in Youth Sport Questionnaire' (JAMBYSQ), which assessed athletes' stage of moral development, team norm for aggression, and self-described likelihood to aggress against an opponent. The findings showed that there was no significant difference between gender (male and female) with aggression t(28)=0.353,p=0.727,p>0.05. Based on the JAMBYSQ questionnaire submitted, it has been identified the most significant factor that cause the occurrence of aggression among players is due to the reaction from the opponent and due to teammates being abused during the match.
