Abstract

பொதுவாக, பத்தொன்பதாம் நூற்றாண்டில் வெளியான ஓ. சந்துமேனனின் இந்துலேகாவே முதல் மலையாள நாவலாகக் கருதப்படுகிறது. அப்போது, இந்தியாவின் மலையாள மொழி பேசும் பகுதி மலபார் எனப் பிரிக்கப்பட்டு சென்னை மாகாணத்தின் கீழ் ஆங்கிலேயர்களின் நேரடி ஆளுகைக்குக் கீழ் வந்தது. கேரள மாநிலம் அதன் பின்னரே தனியாக வடிவம் பெற்றது, ஆனால் கேரளம் காளிதாசரின் இரகுவம்சத்தைப் போலவே பழமையானது. விக்டோரிய சிந்தனைகளுக்கான ஒரு பாலமாக இந்துலேகாவை பகுப்பாய்வு செய்து மதிப்பிட இக்கட்டுரை விளைகிறது. இந்நாவல் கேரளத்தில் ஒரு சமூக-கலாச்சாரப் புரட்சிக்கு வித்திட்டது. கேரளத்தின் ஒரு கிராமத்தில் குடும்பவீடு என்ற கூட்டுக் கட்டமைப்பிலிருந்து பிரிட்டிஷ் ஜனாதிபதி அரசாங்கத்தின் இருப்பிடமான மெட்ராஸில் ஒரு தனிக் குடும்பத்தின் ஒரு இயக்கமாக இந்த நாவலை ஆராய்கிறது.

The text states that O. Chandu Menon's Indulekha, published in the nineteenth century, is generally considered the first Malayalam novel. At that time, the Malayalam-speaking region of India was partitioned as Malabar and came under the direct rule of the British as part of the Madras Presidency. Although the state of Kerala was formed later, the text points out that Kerala is as ancient as Kalidasa's Raghuvaṃsa.This article attempts to analyze Indulekha as a bridge for Victorian ideas. The text argues that the novel instigated a socio-cultural revolution in Kerala. It can be analyzed as a social movement from the joint family structure in a Kerala village to a nuclear family in Madras, which was the seat of the British Presidency government.
