Kepimpinan adalah bersifat kemahiran yang merujuk kepada proses interaksi antara pemimpin dan staf bawahan dalam mencapai sesuatu matlamat. Memahami peranan sebagai pemimpin dan cara pengendalian staf bawahan amat penting dalam tampuk pemerintahan pemimpin dalam memacu organisasi ke arah kecemerlangan. Justeru itu, kepimpinan telah mengalami evolusi yang bersesuai mengikut peredaran zaman dan telah dikaji dalam pelbagai perspektif, teori dan keberkesanannya terhadap perkembangan dalam mencapai matlamat. Kajian ini akan membincangkan definisi kepimpinan instruksional, model-model kepimpinan instruksional dalam aspek pendidikan mengikut zaman, perbezaan model, pembaharuan model serta kompetensi pemimpin instruksional kepada bidang pendidikan dalam merealisasikan matlamat yang ingin dicapai oleh organisasi.
