Relationship between Demographic Factors and Selected Performance Factors with The Perception of The Effectiveness Performance Appraisal System among Royal Malaysia Police officers

This study aims to measure the differences and relationships between selected demographic factors and selected performance determinants with the perception of the effectiveness performance appraisal system among Royal Malaysia Police officer (PDRM) at the Kuching District Police Headquarters. This study is a quantitative study with a population of 800 police officers. A total of 260 police officers were randomly selected as respondents in this study. This research were analyzed using IBM SPSS Version 23.0. The results of the study found that there was no significant difference between gender and length of service on the perception of the effectiveness of the performance appraisal system. Meanwhile, the results of Pearson Correlation test have shown that there is a significant relationship between five selected determinants namely reward (r = 0.299), organizational culture (r = 0.378), handling (r = 0.166), communication (r = 0.360) and training (r = 0.533) with perceptions of the effectiveness of the performance appraisal system. Thus, the most dominant factor that contributed to the effectiveness performance appraisal system was the training factor (β = 0.422). This study is expected to improve organizational performance by using a performance appraisal system that is practiced based on selected determinants. Discussions were also made with respect to aspects of the implications and recommendations of the study.
