The error in the usage of spanish adjectives in writing essays among Malay students in a University

This study of errors analysis was conducted to identify the types of adjective errors made by students in Spanish-language essay writing. The aspect of errors that became the focus of the study was the use of Spanish adjectives including the formation and application in sentences. Students are often confused with the various formation of adjectives based on gender and numbers. This study was carried out with the purpose of identifying the type of morphology errors done by students with Malay as the first language who learned Spanish in Sultan Idris Education University and determining the causes of errors made. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, the researchers have used the theoretical analysis of error. The samples involved were 50 students of the university who studied Spanish level one which is the most basic level. The study found that the majority of respondents committed errors due to the different structure of Spanish sentence compared to Malay. In addition, the results can be concluded that students could easily learn a language if the language has common form or system with their first language or mother tongue. On the other hand, if the system or the adjectives formation are different, the students will experience difficulty and hardship during the learning process. The study found that the causes for students to make mistakes in learning Spanish language is due to the influence of the students' native language and the second language, namely English. Therefore, the researchers suggest several approaches and recommendations for the improvement of teaching and learning Spanish as a foreign language in Malaysia.
