Abstract

The article aims to analyse the comparison between the Western theory of psychology and Islamic theory of psychology that can be applied in the development of psycho-character education of children. Character is very much related to attitude, behavioural aspect, and self-quality of an individual. Previous studies have shown that the development of psycho-character education is crucial in the development of individual’s attitude and behaviour. However, the inclination toward the Western’s theory and psychological concept of psycho-character education and spiritual values requires a re-evaluation which suits the concept of psycho-character education based on al-Quran and as-Sunnah as the relevant sources. This concept paper is meant to analyze the development of psycho-character education of dualistic views: Western and Islam. The method of data collection through descriptive analysis of literature review was used related to the subject matter. Based on the analysis, there are differences of approaches between Western and Islamic theories of psycho-character education. Thus, there is common universal values based on the two school of thoughts. Such universal values can be integrated and applied in the psycho-character education to ensure that children are educated with good admirable character.
