Abstract

This paper discusses the modeling on various types of slope failure in Penang using frequency ratio method in Penang. This study used five variables affecting the occurrence of slope failures which include slope failure distance to the road factor, type of lithology, type of soil series, mean annual precipitation and topographic elevation. The accuracies of the respective models are 76.15 percent for rockfall, 61.54 percent for topple, 70 percent for slide and 78.46 percent for flow. Overall, this study showed that the susceptibility map of various types of slope failure are good. Frequency ratio method is suitably used as a guide in the management and development planning.
