Abstract

Learners’ mathematical thinking process often gets less attention, but has a very significant role in solving mathematical problems. It needs an emphasis in mathematics learning, focusing on learners thinking process, which can be done through metacognitive approach. Recognizing the importance of teachers and the need for metacognitive approach in teaching and learning process, this research was developed for mathematics learning model through a study on metacognitive based learning. This research aimed at developing mathematic learning model through metacognitive based learning. This mathematics learning models development through a study on metacognitive based learning consisted of three stages: a) initial study, described in the discussion based on theory and some previous researches; b) planning model, consisted of activities to plan components, namely: instruments and learning devices as well as textbook model; c) realization; The result showed that mathematics learning models development through a study on metacognitive based learning was qualified, met the criteria, practical, and effective. The study provides theoretical and practical implications in the development of mathematics learning. Theoritically, this study can: a) be used as the basis for learning development that prioritizes the awareness in studying the learning materials; b) improve the quality of teachers professionalism of and revive the learners towards the materials being studied, to improve the quality of learning; c) direct the learners mental activity in understanding the learning materials.Practically, this study can: a) be practiced by the teachers of mathematics at Junior High School; b) increase the learners awareness in the following learning activities.
