Abstract

This study examines the importance of using learning kits as instructional teaching aids in the subject of Visual Arts Education (VAE) at the primary school level, grounded in constructivist theory and creativity theory. The focus of the study is on the needs analysis and initial design phases, without involving physical product development or product evaluation. The study adopts a qualitative approach through a literature review method based on document analysis of previous studies related to the development and use of art learning kits. The findings indicate that learning kits have the potential to enhance students’ creativity, critical thinking, technical skills, as well as their appreciation of art and culture. In addition, instructional design models such as ADDIE and student-centred learning approaches were found to be effective in supporting interactive and contextual learning experiences. Overall, this study emphasizes that learning kits serve as a catalyst for pedagogical innovation in line with the aspirations of 21st-century education and the Malaysia Education Development Plan (PPPM) 2013–2025.
