Abstract

The demand for meat and organs of wild animals for food is very popular amongst people in the Asian countries such as Indonesia, China, Myanmar, Korea, Vietnam and Malaysia. Animals such as tiger, ant eater, bears, snakes, monkeys and gecko are the animals often preyed and hunted by wild animal food enthusiasts. Most of these hunted animals were protected to prevent from extinction. For wild animal food lovers, the flavours can be in various ways depending on how they were prepared raw, steamed, fried or boiled. They believe that the meat could provide them numerous health benefits as wild animal meat contained high nutrients without realising it could adversely affect the protection of endangered wild animals and human health. This article discusses the regulatory measures for the consumption of meat of wild animals for food.
