Abstract

Studies on organizational behavior report that employee emotions consist of two salient features: explicit emotions and implicit emotions. The ability of employees to properly manage their emotions may lead to decreased burnouts. More importantly, investigations on such relationships reveal that effects of employee emotions on burnouts is indirectly affected by career-family interference. This relationship is interesting, but little is known about the intervening effect of career-family interference in employee emotion models. Therefore, this study was conducted to measure the effect of employee emotions and career-family interference on burnouts at a public university in Malaysia. Stepwise regression analysis showed that relationship between employee emotions (explicit and implicit) and career-family interference is positively and significantly correlated with burnouts. The result shows that management of employee emotions and career-family interference can cause a decrease in burnouts in the organization studied.
