Impacts of Place Consumerism to Tourism Location on Small Old Towns: A Case Study on Kellie's Castle and Menara Condong Teluk Intan, Perak, Malaysia

This article aims to identify the impacts of place consumerism at Kellie's Castle and the Menara Condong Teluk Intan among local tourists and then to determine the sphere of influence of place consumerism on both as tourist destinations due to history and heritage. Using data collection method by means of questionnaires, a total of 100 respondents of local tourist met at the study locations were asked to answer the questions posed. Zones of spread and sphere of influence of tourist location at Kellie's Castle and the Menara Condong Teluk Intan as tourism location based on history and heritage of the old towns is shown by means of ‘buffering’ technique. The results showed that, there are differences on place consumerism trend for both tourist locations based on history and heritage that affected the size of the sphere of influence of both these towns. Kellie's Castle is more prominent as tourism location based on history and heritage and the town has a greater sphere of influence as compared to the Menara Condong Teluk Intan and shows it is more popular among local tourists. The conclusion is fact needs to be given attention because it can give implications on place tourism marketing strategy on small towns in the future.
