Abstract

Wan Muhammad Saman Canal is a heritage that is very significant to the economic development of the State of Kedah. It is often the subject of conversation among the people because of the story of its development and contribution to the surrounding community. However, as time passes, the image and its history has been forgotten by the people. To ensure that the history of this canal is not forgotten, a study was conducted to determine the potential of the canal as a tourism product in Kedah and to update the information related to this canal. The methods of data collection are references from secondary sources, interviews with stakeholders, local people (head of villagers, imam) and Kedah Historical Society, and observation on site to determine the current situation of the canal. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the expansion of knowledge, harness the latest information related to the canal that was never known before, identifying potential historical relics along the canal as a tourism product and identifying the challenges faced in preserving this heritage.
