Provision of Facilities in the Tun Fatimah Residential College, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia

Abstract

A preliminary study on the comfort and provision of facilities at residential colleges is required prior to the actual study of the concept of sustainable residential college in Malaysia. The methodology uses a questionnaire to 40 respondents in the Tun Fatimah Residential College, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). The questionnaire is divided into three parts, namely part A related to demographics, part B regarding the comfort of the accommodation design and part C related to the provision of facilities and equipment. Data analysis uses percentage to determine the level of comfort and preparation of each question item relating to the residential colleges. The findings show that all the eleven items of accommodation comfort questions on accommodation design are at the comfortable level and this indicates that the provision of accommodation by the residential colleges meet the current needs of the occupants. While part C shows 41 items from 46 items have a high number in their preparation. These results indicate that the residential colleges provide complete and sufficient facilities. However, there is still a need to improve facilities and increase the number of facilities to facilitate the learning process of residents in residential colleges. Residential colleges with comfortable and adequate facilities are essential so that residents can focus on learning and achieving excellence.
