Mastery Level of Integrated Science Process Skills (PES) Among the Form 2 Students in Temerloh (80 - 99)

Abstract

This article reports the level of mastering of integrated science process skills (KPSB) as a whole, as well as the degree of control over each of the five sub-skills in KPSB, which identifies variables, defines operations, identifies testable hypotheses, interprets data and graphs, and designs experiments. In addition, differences in KPSB domination levels based on gender and location are also identified. This study uses a causal-comparative design in which TIPS-II (M) - the Malay version of Test of Integrated Process Skills II (Burns, Okey, & Wise, 1985) is administered to 436 Form 2 students from two urban schools and three rural schools in Temerloh District. The collected data are descriptively analyzed in terms of percent mean percentage for a fair and inferential comparison by using two way ANOVA (gender x location). The findings show that the level of KPSB domination as a whole and the level of domination in each sub-skill in KPSB is below the 67% marker level. This indicates that in general, Form 2 students have not yet reached a satisfactory level of KPSB domination. The two-way ANOVA findings show that there are two-way interaction effects that are in line with the major effects of the sexes and the major effects of the location. This indicates that the impact of the location is affected by gender. In other words, although there is a significant difference in the level of KPSB domination among urban and rural students, only in urban areas there is a significant difference in the level of KPSB achievement among male and female students.
