Abstract

Thailand is among the countries which have the most versions of the constitution. Until 1997, the Constitution of Thailand were categorized into four versions; the first version was called the politician version. The second version was named as military version, third the pre-1972 and 1997 version named as the Royal version. All these versions of its constitution were amended to make some changes which concerned the freedom of speech and the right of people. Freedom and the right of people in the constitution is referring to the changes in social right of society such the welfare of the people, the freedom to practice their own religions and beliefs and people right to politically involved such establishing political parties and associations. There is always the question whether all the freedom and right of people enshrined in the constitution is realized into the government policies and actions where generally the practice of democracy principles and social justice hardly implemented effectively. In the case of Thailand, the student uprising in 1974 has changed the situation where the struggle for democracy by them through the National Student Center of Thailand successfully brought awareness to all level of society. The drafting of the Constitution of 1974 under the civilian government, provide wide opportunities to the public to establish political parties and trade unions representing the workers and peasants .
