Motivation Factor in the Learning Practice of Quran Memorization

This study aims to observe the motivation factor in the learning practice of Quran memorization among secondary school students. The memorization of the Quran is a self-learning practice as the students strive to memorize the verses in the Quran before reciting them in front of the teacher. Therefore, motivation factor plays a very critical role to the students in their effort to memorize and to retain the memorized verses. This study employed a quantitative research method using a series of survey as an instrument to obtain the data. The sample data comprised of selected form four students of SMKA in Malaysia who are selected based on stratified random sampling technique for data selection. A total of 814 students were selected as participants to take part in answering a series of questionnaires concerning the aspect of motivation in the learning practice of Quran memorization. A descriptive analysis using IBM SPSS Version 22 software was used on the data and the findings were reported in the form of percentages and means. The research findings indicated the motivation factor in the learning practice of quran memorization among the students is relatively at a higher level (mean=3.64). Thus, it can be concluded that motivation is a significant pushing factor in driving the students’ interest to memorize the Quran.
