Abstract

This study examines the method of parents’ upbringing of their children in building their brilliant’s personality. The objective of the study was to determine the method of parents’ upbringing of their children through authoritarian methods (too firm), the permissive (freedom) or authoritative methods (give freedom and mutually agreed). The study was conducted at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Pulau Sebang, Alor Gajah, Malacca. The survey was distributed to 150 randomly selected respondents representing form one to form five samples. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 2.1 software to obtain frequencies and percentages. The findings show that majority of students prefer the authoritative method. This method was viewed as having positive effect in which parents who adopt this style gave freedom to the children with certain restrictions in order to build the students personality in terms of moral and academic.
