Relationship between Kolb’s Learning Style and Sternberg’s Thinking Style amongst Technical Education Students (63 - 81)

Abstract

Learning styles and thinking styles represent different individual preferences and strengthsin learning. The purpose of this descriptive research was to analyse the relationshipbetween learning styles and thinking styles among technical education students. A total of230 technical education students were randomly selected as samples. The Kolb LearningStyles Inventory and Sternberg-Wagner Thinking Styles Inventory were used as researchinstruments. The results showed that majority students are Converger, followed by Accomodator, Assimilator and Diverger. The most dominant form of thinking styles amongstudents is Oligarchic. The Cramer V correlation test indicated that there is no statisticallysignificant relationship between Kolb learning styles and demographic factors. The findingshowed that there is a very low relationship between year of study and Oligarchic, aswell as Anarchic. However, gender has a low relationship with Oligarchic, Hierarchicand Anarchic. Besides that, the Cramer V correlation test also revealed that there is no statistically significant relationship between Kolb learning styles and Sternberg-WagnerThinking Styles.
