Choosing Appropriate Bahasa Melayu Books for Malaysian Children (41 - 52)

Abstract

This article discussed theories of children development; such as cognitive and linguistic theory by Piaget and social-emotional theory by Erickson. These theories were foundations in developing criteria of suitable storybooks for certain age; two of four, five to seven years old. The criteria discussed were types of books, types of sentences, illustrations, and types of stories that capture children’s interest. Therefore, teachers and parents should be aware of the criteria as a guide in choosing the suitable books for their children.
