Abstract

The study aims to observe the text intertextuality between adolescents of different genders. The study was conducted using the qualitative method and analysed using Julia Kristeva’s intertextuality theory. Studies related to intertextuality were mostly focused on literary works, especially in the writing of novels, poesies and poems. Therefore, this paper aims to observe the use of texts in blog posts by adolescents of different genders and its signification process through the theory of intertextuality. Study findings were obtained by analysing the blog posts of two adolescents throughout 2012, and it was acquired based on qualitative research. The analysis was conducted based on four intertextuality formulae introduced by Julia Kristeva, namely, hypotext is traditional texts, hypotext is author's own texts, hypotext is other writers' texts, and hypotext is non-creative texts. Once analysed, study findings showed that the texts written by adolescents on the internet did not stand independently but were rather influenced by other texts. In addition, this study also proves that the meaning of the existing text is influential in its interpretation.
