Perception of the Spa Centre Among Spa Visitors in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor, Malaysia

The purpose of the study was to examine the perceptions of spa centre visitors as today’s lifestyle has boasting the spa business. Therefore, the study was conducted at 21 spa centres around Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor to understand the perceptions of spa centre visitors. The process of collecting data was done using a questionnaire and 70 respondents were involved in the study. Findings show that women and group of 21-30 years old were the most visitors to the spa centre. The traditional Malay-concept spa centre was the most preferred (65.7%) whilst the cosmectic-based spa type was the most frequented by respondents (72.9%). The top five ranking of the 20 reasons given by respondents were related with mind therapy and relaxation. Demand for healthcare and physical fitness in the city’s spa industry is also encouraging. This shows that the spa centre is an alternative destination for city dwellers to relax and look gorgeous and fit. The luxury spa businesses such as hotel spas and cruise spas are also potential to be developed in Bandar Baru Bangi with a focus on high income groups. This also creates a positive potential for the spa business, not only in Bandar Baru Bangi but also in other urban areas in Malaysia.
