Abstract

Textbooks are the leading resources for teachers and students in teaching and learning. Thus, this study was conducted to analyse the content of the revised KSSR standard four mathematics textbook version 2017 based on the content domains in the TIMSS 2019 mathematics framework. This study adapted content analysis of survey design using quantitative and qualitative approaches. The study results showed that most of the topics in the standard four mathematics textbook fulfilled the content domains and topic fields stated in TIMSS 2019 mathematics framework. However, some of the content domains and topic fields did not fulfill the minimum percentage as stated in the TIMSS 2019 mathematics framework. The situation was due to some of the content domains, and topic fields exceeding the specific percentage caused others not to reach the fixed percentage level. Consequently, the division of content in the standard four mathematics textbook was less satisfactory. Therefore, this study gave a general view and implications to mathematics textbook writers and curriculum developers to realize the gap between the content in standard four mathematics textbook and TIMSS 2019 mathematics framework, which must be given more attention to overcome the deficiency of standard four mathematics textbook. This study improved space towards creating a standard four mathematics textbook that parallels TIMSS 2019 mathematics framework so that teachers’ teaching and students’ learning can achieve at the optimum level. Indirectly, the stakeholders have an early preparation to face the TIMSS test which will be held in 2023.
