Keberkesanan kepimpinan sekolah semakin diukur berdasarkan keupayaannya untuk memfokuskan pembangunan murid secara menyeluruh. Namun, dalam konteks sekolah agama di Malaysia, amalan kepimpinan berpusatkan murid masih dilaksanakan tanpa panduan yang jelas dan khusus. Keadaan ini menimbulkan jurang antara tuntutan dasar pendidikan dan realiti kepimpinan di sekolah agama. Justeru, kajian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis keperluan pembangunan model kepimpinan berpusatkan murid berdasarkan pandangan pemimpin sekolah agama sebagai asas kepada pembinaan kerangka kepimpinan yang lebih kontekstual dan relevan. Kajian menggunakan reka bentuk kualitatif melalui temu bual separa berstruktur melibatkan empat orang pemimpin sekolah agama dari Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) dan Sekolah Agama Bantuan Kerajaan (SABK) yang dipilih secara persampelan bertujuan. Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis tematik berasaskan prosedur Braun dan Clarke (2006). Dapatan mengenal pasti tujuh tema utama yang menggambarkan keperluan terhadap model sebagai panduan yang membimbing pemimpin sekolah, menyokong penambahbaikan sekolah, berfungsi sebagai penanda aras, memenuhi piawaian, bersifat holistik, berasaskan konteks tempatan dan didokumentasikan secara sistematik. Secara keseluruhan, dapatan mencadangkan bahawa kekurangan garis panduan yang sistematik dan kontekstual menyebabkan pelaksanaan kepimpinan berpusatkan murid di sekolah agama cenderung kurang seragam dan bergantung kepada inisiatif individu. Justeru, pembangunan model yang berpaksikan nilai pendidikan Islam serta disesuaikan dengan realiti sekolah agama berpotensi memperkukuh keseragaman amalan kepimpinan, pemantauan prestasi dan pembangunan murid secara menyeluruh.
