Abstract
This study focuses on the strategic use of Deliberate Practice to enhance the ability to perform bebop jazz improvisation on the trombone. Deliberate Practice refers to a systematically planned and repeatedly executed training approach aimed at improving individual skills and strengthening proficiency in a specific field, including music education. In the context of this study, each Deliberate Practice session lasted one to two hours and was divided into three main stages: warm-up, playing songs, and improvisation. The warm-up stage was designed to provide the technical and physical foundation for the player before progressing to more complex song performances. The improvisation stage focused on exploring creativity and developing the artistic process based on bebop improvisation lines. The primary goal of Deliberate Practice in this study was to stimulate creative ideas, shape deeper artistic expression, and improve improvisation skills in Zain Azman’s compositions based on bebop lines. In addition to technical aspects, the researcher also emphasized the development of instrumental competence and the cultivation of positive thinking and motivation among trombone players throughout the training sessions.
