CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS -- VOLUME 15, 2026

Deadline for Submissions:  30 June 2026

An objective of the Malaysian Journal of Music (MJM) is to provide a platform for music scholars to critically discuss issues related to music. The Journal invites submissions for Volume 15 (2026).

Whilst MJM is based in Malaysia, articles focusing on any geographical region are welcome, provided they demonstrate theoretical rigour and empirical depth. MJM publishes original research articles across its established scope, including:

  • Musicology and music history
  • Ethnomusicology
  • Music education and pedagogy
  • Performance and practice-based research
  • Composition
  • Music and sound technologies, including digital, electroacoustic, and computational approaches
  • Popular music studies
  • Music therapy
  • Music business and creative industries

Areas of Particular Interest for Volume 15 (2026)

Within the Journal’s normal scope, Volume 15 particularly welcomes submissions that engage critically with:

  • Synthetic and generative media in music, including questions of authorship, creativity, authenticity, and ethics
  • Feminist, gender, and intersectional approaches to music scholarship and musical practice
  • Decolonial, postcolonial, and Global South perspectives on music, sound, and knowledge production
  • The management and governance of musical heritage within global systems, including frameworks such as Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH)

Submission of a manuscript to MJM implies that it represents an original contribution that has not been previously published and is not under consideration elsewhere.

All submissions must conform to the Journal’s publication guidelines. A degree of flexibility in presentation modes may be accepted for articles on composition, performance, music technology, or sound-based practices, provided that strong academic writing standards and critical engagement are maintained.

To be considered for publication in Volume 15, your manuscript must be received by the deadline noted above.
