Validity and Reliability of an Interactive Sensory Travel Kit for Enhancing Letter Recognition Skills Among Five-Year-Old Children

Kajian ini dijalankan bagi mendapatkan pengesahan pakar terhadap pembangunan Interactive Sensory Travel Kit yang dibangunkan untuk membantu kemahiran mengenal huruf dalam kalangan kanak-kanak berumur 5 tahun. Pendekatan kualitatif telah digunakan dengan instrumen borang kesahan pakar. Seramai sepuluh orang pakar dipilih sebagai sampel kajian yang terdiri daripada tiga pakar Bahasa, empat pensyarah Pendidikan Awal Kanak-Kanak (PAKK), dan tiga orang guru Tadika. Data dianalisis menggunakan Indeks Kesahan Kandungan (CVI) sebagai alat utama penilaian. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa purata CVI keseluruhan yang diperoleh ialah 0.97 (≥ 0.76). Nilai S-CVI ini membuktikan bahawa setiap item pembangunan Interactive Sensory Travel Kit yang dinilai oleh pakar mempunyai tahap kesahan kandungan yang tinggi dan boleh diterima. Hasil kajian turut memperlihatkan bahawa para pakar memperakui instrumen yang digunakan dalam pembangunan Interactive Sensory Travel Kit berupaya mengukur item yang dinyatakan, dengan beberapa cadangan penambahbaikan. Implikasi kajian ini diharapkan dapat membantu kanak-kanak berumur 5 tahun meningkatkan kemahiran mengenal huruf melalui penggunaan Interactive Sensory Travel Kit. Justeru, Interactive Sensory Travel Kit berpotensi memberi impak positif dalam proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran (PdP) di peringkat awal kanak-kanak.
This study was conducted to obtain expert validation of the development of the Interactive Sensory Travel Kit, designed to support letter recognition skills among five-year-old children. A qualitative approach was employed using an expert validation form as the research instrument. A total of ten experts were selected as the study sample, comprising three language experts, four Early Childhood Education (ECE) lecturers, and three kindergarten teachers. Data were analyzed using the Content Validity Index (CVI) as the main evaluation tool. The findings showed that the overall average CVI obtained was 0.97 (≥ 0.76). This S-CVI value indicates that each item in the development of the Interactive Sensory Travel Kit, as evaluated by the experts, demonstrated a high and acceptable level of content validity. The results also revealed that the experts affirmed the instruments used in the development of the Interactive Sensory Travel Kit were capable of measuring the intended items, with several suggested improvements. The implications of this study are expected to assist five-year-old children in enhancing their letter recognition skills through the use of the Interactive Sensory Travel Kit. Therefore, the Interactive Sensory Travel Kit has the potential to provide a positive impact on the teaching and learning process.
