Abstract

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti kefahaman pelajar tingkatan empat mengenai elektrokimia. Kajian ini menumpu kepada sel elektrolisis dan sel kimia dalam menguji kefahaman pelajar tentang konsep elektrokimia secara makroskopik, mikroskopik dan simbolik. Dua instrumen telah digunakan dalam kajian ini, iaitu ujian dan temu bual. Nilai Alpha Cronbach instrumen ujian adalah 0.78. Seramai 176 orang pelajar tingkatan empat dari empat buah sekolah menengah di Daerah Ledang, Johor telah mengambil bahagian sebagai responden dalam kajian ini. Seramai 16 orang responden yang menunjukkan miskonsepsi tertentu juga dipilih untuk menjalani sesi temu bual. Didapati bahawa responden kajian menunjukkan beberapa miskonsepsi dalam elektorkimia mengenai konsep pengaliran elektrik dalam konduktor logam dan dalam elektrolit, mengenal pasti anod dan katod, mengenal pasti tindak balas yang berlaku di anod dan katod, konsep pengoksidaan dan penurunan, serta konsep elektrolit.

This study aims to identify the understanding of form four students in electrochemistry. Two instruments were used in this study, which included test and interview. Structured questions were used in the instrument in order to test the students’ understanding regarding electrolysis and chemical cell at macroscopic, microscopic and symbolic level. The Alpha Cronbach value of the test was 0.78. A total of 176 form four students from four secondary schools in the Ledang District, Johore took part in this study. Sixteen respondents found to have certain misconceptions in the test instrument were called for an interview. Findings showed that respondents have some misconceptions in electrochemistry regarding the concept of the flow of current in metallic conductors and electrolytes, identifying the anode and cathode, identifying the process at the anode and cathode, oxidation and reduction concept, electrolyte concept.
