Abstract

In the study of design and development, one of the vital stages that need to be carried out is the needs analysis. In this study, a needs analysis is carried out to ensure that the module produced is suitable for the user's needs. This quantitative survey study was carried out to see the need for the development of the second year Mathematics Neoteric Learning Module in the field of numbers and operations from teachers’ perspective as well as to see teachers’ perception and knowledge about integration between subjects at school. This module uses a new (neoteric) approach that has not yet been widely used in schools. This neoteric approach used is called integrated learning where three subjects are combined in one teaching session. In this study, the subjects chosen are Mathematics, Physical Education and Music Art Education. A set of needs analysis questionnaires was given to 21 primary school mathematics teachers throughout Malaysia. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively, such as frequencies and percentages using software. The results of the analysis show that the majority of respondents agree that this module is suitable for student’s learning. A total of 90.48% of respondents agreed that the development of neoteric learning modules should be developed for the field of numbers and operations. In addition, the findings also show that teachers have knowledge about learning using integration methods where 85.71% of respondents have used subject integration methods during teaching and learning sessions, while a total of 52.38% of respondents have carried out the integration of Mathematics subjects with Physical Education and Education Music art. The results of this study provide a brief overview of the need for a learning module using the neoteric method of integration for Year 2 Mathematics in the field of numbers and operations.
