Abstract

Project-based learning is one of the most effective learning strategies to engage students and improve their understanding towards Science concepts. This study was conducted to develop a project-based learning module for the Ecosystem Balance theme of Year One Science. The development of the module according to ADDIE instructional design but this study only focused on the development phase which consisted of the development and validity evaluation of the module. The module was developed by integrating four content standards of Science Year One which are components of plant, Earth surface, soil, and construction from basic shapes and blocks. The module was developed to apply the project-based learning strategy that involved the production of scrapbook and construction of a garden model in the shape of a diorama. The findings showed that the module had a high percentage of expert agreement value of 92% (SD = 9) for face validity and 97% (SD = 3) for content validity. The module is expected to attract Year One students to study Science subject and embedded science process skills, critical and creative thinking skills, 21st century skills and high-level thinking skills in themselves. The implication of this study is that the project-based learning module developed can assist teachers in the implementation of home-based teaching and learning method as an alternative to new norms learning.
