Abstract

his study aims to identify the level of implementation of constructivist approach in Science. In addition, it seeks to identify the level of knowledge, readiness, skills and attitudes of teachers and to identify differences in the implementation of constructivism in science approach to gender, age, ethnicity, teaching experience, academic status, options and in service training of school teachers and also constraints on the implementation of constructivism in science approach were identified. The study involves 450 teachers teaching Science from 68 schools in Kuala Lumpur. This study was conducted through a survey using questionnaire instruments. The findings of this study were analyzed using SPSS ‘statistical package for social sciences. The data for this study uses inferential statistics and descriptive statistics. Distribution of frequency or frequencies with percentages and mean scores and t-tests and ANOVA (f-test) was used. The results show a high level of implementation of constructivism inthe aspect of readiness and attitude, but it was low for knowledge and skills of Science teachers. The study also shows significant differences between the implementation of constructivism in science approach to gender, age, teaching experience, options and in service training of the respondents. However, there were no significant differences for the factor of ethnicity and academic status of respondents. In conclusion, this study contributes to the improvement in the implementation of constructivism to the Teachers Training Institutions in Malaysia in a more comprehensive way.
